The form data is not being sent. The confirmation email is. The success page is not working properly either. I moved success.html to a folder in the site and changed the path in success.pl The yahoo server requires the .pl extension. The success.pl is loaded but the success.html is not called.
If we can get this script working on this lame server we will be heroes.

Firstly Are you getting any errors at all. I will asume you are not and move on.

1. It sounds like you are on a windows server. If so Chmoding files is sometimes disabled. So the main thing is that you are able to chmod bizmail.dat to 777. if this is not so it will not write form data to the file.

That should do it if you still are having problems let me know.

Seth

2. If you are going to change the path in success.pl to access success.html, it must be the absolute path!!! You ushualy have to check with your host for this. It is easier however just to use step 3, since moving it to another folder is not going to do anything for you.

3. The success page. If you are using success.pl or success.cgi (SAME THING) and have uploaded that file to your cgi-bin, then you must also upload the success.html to the cgi-bin, that is associated with the success.pl, (LOCATED IN THE: success cgi-bin) folder in bizmail.zip.
The reason for this is success.html is not run, success.pl is, and then opens success.html as a data file.

4. When setting the success.pl page you must, configure that to come up in the form field:
<input type="hidden" name="success_page" value="http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-bin/sucess.pl">
DO NOT CONFIGURE IT TO ACCESS YOUR success.html page.

Hey Seth
Thanks for getting back to me. It took a while but I was able to find out that yahoo is using Unix based servers. I will worry about the success page if I can get the emails to be sent properly. According to the rather weak help files Yahoo offers the chmod setting is not needed. I will try that but I think it something else because the script does write form data to the txt file and sends an email to the email address entered by the user.

Are you getting the information that was filled out back to your email.
Because I filled out a test and got the auto response just fine.

Note that when testing it if the email the auto reply is going back to, is the same as the email of the person getting the form data email, it will cause problems.

I'm not getting the form data emailed back to me. The email that it should go to is luigi@kestrelcycles.com and I've been using luigi@direcway.com when I fill in the form.

It sounds like it could be a problem with your email. You may want to set up a free yahoo email address, and see if that works for testing purposes. If it does you know it is your email provider.

I wish it was that simple but the email seems to work fine.
I've added your address (mail@sethknorr.com) into the send to field so you can try it.

Yeah, I tested it but this time it is not working. I found at least one problem. you have in the success page field:

<input type="hidden" name="success_page" value="/cgi-local/bizmail/success.pl?p=1&firstname={first_name}">

CHANGE TO

<input type="hidden" name="success_page" value="http://www.yourdomain.com/cgi-local/bizmail/success.pl?p=1&firstname={first_name}">

THAT SEEMS TO BE PART ONE OF THE PROBLEM OF WHY ON SUBMISSION I GET NO SUCCESS PAGE BUT INSTEAD A PAGE NOT FOUND.

2. I was receiving the autoresponse when I tested it last, now I am not at all, or the form results, Have you changed any variables. Also What method are you using, SENDMAIL, OR SMTP.

and are you sure you are using the correct path to either.

Hey Seth
I changed the path, although I did get the success page to work the way it was when I put the success.html in the same folder. Other than putting your email as the send to I have not changed any variables. I am using sendmail and the path is correct. I believe the problem now is that the send to address is supposed to be in the domain. I was using bnbform on the server that we are switching from and it worked fine. I tried to get it working on this new Yahoo server and it acted about like yours. The one thing I noticed with it is if I used the luigi@kestrelcycles.usa as the send to and also entered the same address in the form it would not send the autoresponse mail but would mail the form data. Does that give you any clues?
If you want me to I can set you up an email address at this domain for testing purposes.

Yeah, I think what the problem is is that your email needs to be set in the actual script. I will create you a download zip file, they will fix this problem for you.

Wow thanks
That would be great!
Will I be able to modify the email address by doing a search and replace or something like that?

Ok download the update script found here:

http://www.bizmailform.com/update/bmf9_from.zip

This will contain the smtp.cgi and sendmail.cgi, Simply go to about the 8th line of each script and you will see the line:

$MY_FROM_EMAIL = "you\@yourdomain.com";

Simply configure this variable with your email and your all set. Just remember the \ before the @!!
ex. \@

Thanks a million!!!
Do I need to change the configuration in the bizmail.pl or is all that going to be overridden by your new sendmail.pl?

You are the MAN!!! It works. I have one more question (if you're lucky :)). The from is luigi@kestrelcycles.com for both emails. Any way to have the form data one have the email entered into the form?

Seth I do have at least one more question. This one is about the data file. Mine looks like this:
first_name%2Clast_name%2Caddress%2Ccity%2Cstate%2Czip%2Ccountry%2Csubmit_by%2Ccomment%2Creceive_email%2Creceive_mail%2Creceive_call|James|Puzziferro|Redwood|Santa Cruz|CO|79345|USA|luigi@direcway.com|jljljljljlj|yes|yes|yes|66.82.9.13|11/21/2003 at -12:20
but I only want this:
James|Puzziferro|Redwood|Santa Cruz|CO|79345|USA|luigi@direcway.com|jljljljljlj|yes|yes|yes
Any way to make that happen?
Thanks again for all the help. The script is awesome!

Yeah you have to download the update for bizmail.cgi which can be found at:

http://www.bizmailform.com/update/bmf9_3.zip

This will fix that:
%2Caddress%2Ccity%2Cstate%2Czip%2Ccountry%
Problem.

For the second email question Download the update file again. Now there will be two emails to configure.
$MY_FROM_EMAIL
Which is the from email for the email you get.

$MY_PROSPECT_EMAIL
Which is the from email for the email the prospect will receive.

Seth
Still more:
The text file is great except that there is one blank field
Joe|Shmoe|111 Serra Court|Santa Cruz|CA|95003|USA||test 123456|yes|yes|yes|
in between USA and test 123456
is that a problem with my form? I filled all the fields in the browser before submitting.
Also on the email I get $MY_FROM_EMAIL
how do I get it to come to me@myemail.com with the from/reply being the email entered by the form submitter in the email field?

  Subject: Re: A number of issues

  By: Seth Knorr

You would have to enter:

$formdata{'email'}

Instead of putting a physical email address in there, This will customize it with the person filling out the forms email.

Also the blank field could be anything, It could be a hidden field you forgot about that has a blank value, or just a regular field that has a blank value.

Are you getting a blank field on the email back with the data? If so that should tell you what is left blank.

Hey Seth
The data file issue was a form issue. I didn't have the right name for the field.
I'm afraid I've still got an issue with the sendmail. If I put the $formdata{'email'} into the $MY_FROM_EMAIL the form data is never sent. I can only guess that it is trying to send to the address I add in the email field in the form. I need that one to be hard coded but I still would like to have the option of having the reply/from that we recieve to have the email field address in it. Any hope?

Well you said, All mail coming off your server has to be sent from your email address you specified.

Therefore the only way it will work is if you set both of those emails to your own.

I was afraid of that. This is by no means a show stopper. I just thought it would be cool to be able to reply to some of the requests directly but obviously we have the persons email there in the form data. What you've done for me here has taken a huge weight off of me. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.
Thanks again for the awesome script.

Seth
I was wondering if you might have an idea about this one:
One of the forms I have created needs to send the data to a different address. Seeing as how the senmail.pl needed to be rewritten to have the that address hard coded I figured no prob I'll just copy every thing to a new folder and change the address in the /newfolder/sendmail.pl to the other email address. It doesn't work. I get a 500 internal error. Any ideas? the /infomail/sendmail.pl still works fine.

Yes, you could re-install the script as a seperate instance, however you need to do it as if from scratch. Mainly you need to remember to upload the MIME folder with Lite.pm contained in it both set to 777. Second make sure you are uploading them to a CGI-BIN readable directory. Uploading a cgi script to a HTML readable only directory will not work. Other wise It should work for you.
